Deer grazing on a hillside in town. Deer could be
seen here at any time of time, every day of the week. We
also say many deer wandering through the streets of
Jackson. |

Elk herds on the National Elk Refugee, the winter
home of thousands of elk and bison. |

A beaver lodge on the side of a small river. |

We spotted this moose on the side of the road. Her
severe hunger drove her out to feed, despite the extreme
heat of the day. In the full size version, you may see a
tracking collar around her neck. Many of the moose we saw
had such collars. |

Look carefully... (click on the image for the full
size version). The white spot on the ridgeline to the
left of the tree is a big horn sheep. 17 sheep call this
hill home. In the "Town of Jackson" gallery,
you can spot this hill in the center of the National Elk
Refuge. |

Those are two massive coyotes pulling the last scraps
off an elk carcass. Coyotes and wolves flourish in the
area due to the National Elk Refuge. The hill in the
background is the sheep hill mentioned above. |

A small group of elk that reside on a private ranch.
The ranch owner keeps them there by illegally providing
hay for the elk to eat. He gets away with it by keeping a
horse or two on the property and claiming the feed is for
the horses. |
